'Medicep', a medical insurance scheme for government employees and pensioners

The cabinet of the goverment of Kerala has approved the scheme Medicep', a medical insurance scheme for government employees and pensioners.The project will start  January 1, 2022. Membership is mandatory for all employees (except All India Service Officers) and pensioners who are designated as members of the scheme. Cashless treatment will be provided for the treatments included in the scheme including existing ailments. Beneficiaries of the scheme include State Government employees, part-time contingent employees, part-time teachers, teachers and non-teaching staff including aided schools, pensioners and family pensioners, their dependents and all-India service officers serving under the State Government and their dependents. The cabinet also approved in principle the inclusion of retired MLAs in the scheme. Beneficiaries of the scheme will be the employees / pensioners / family pensioners of the universities and local bodies receiving funds from the State Government, the Chief Minister / other Ministers, the Leader of the Opposition, the Chief Whip, the Speaker, the Chairmen of the Finance Committees and the family pensioners. The monthly insurance premium for employees and pensioners will be Rs.500. Coverage under the scheme is available only in empaneled public and private hospitals. However, treatment in non-empaneled hospitals is also covered in life-threatening or life-threatening emergencies. OP Category treatments are not included in the plan. Therefore, all Government employees subject to the Government of Kerala Servant Medical Attendant Rules are eligible for OP in all Government Hospitals and in all Super Specialty Hospitals including Thiruvananthapuram RCC, Sree Chitra, Malabar Cancer Center and Cochin Cancer Center. The current system of medical re-employment for treatment will continue. OP Category treatments are not included in the plan.
