The Health Department has launched a campaign 'Uttavare Kakkam: Beware of Rabies' to create awareness among people about rabies. The campaign will expose the proper awareness and relevance of the prevention of rabies to the public. The grass root level campaign will be spread across every stratum of society, especially from the school level. Guidelines for the primary care  People who are injured by an animal bite,  wash the wound area thoroughly with soap and water for 15 minutes as soon as possible. Seek treatment immediately and take vaccination  Anti-rabies vaccine (IDRV) and immunoglobulin are given depending on the severity of the injury.  Ensure the vaccination at the correct interval.  The vaccine should be given on the day of the bite and then on days 3, 7, and 28. If the symptoms are to be found after vaccination seek treatment immediately.  Make sure pets are vaccinated.
