VIVA Keralam Campaign for Anemia Free Kerala

VIVA Kerala is an extensive campaign implemented by the health department with the aim of complete eradication of  Anemia. As per the National sample surveys , it is observed that  Kerala is the state with the lowest Anemia rate in the country.  However  VIVA campaign is being implemented on the backdrop that there is a increasing trend of anemia in the state. Anemia is a condition in which Hemoglobin (Hb) is low in the blood. The Haemoglobin level in the blood should be above 12 in the normal way and those who having the range below is considered as anemic. This varies in accordence with the factors such as age,gender and other health conditions of the individuals. As part of the campaign, 20 lakh kits will be made available for anaemia testing.The campaign is targeted at people in the age group of 15-59 years.Since the causes and outcomes of anemia are different for each age group, interventions tailored to individual health conditions will be made available through the campaign.  Nutrition, a balanced diet,  and healthcare utilization  are important for controlling anemia. Treatment measures such as test, talk and treat will be available as part of the campaign.Awareness of their language will be strengthened in the tribal areas. Apart from rural areas, women in urban areas are also anaemic. The Viva campaign is a crucial step in the field of health, especially in the healthcare of women, as prevalence of anemia is  high among females in the state.
