Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)
Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a government initiative aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates by encouraging childbirth in medical facilities. The scheme primarily benefits pregnant women over the age of 19 who belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.In addition to this group, all pregnant women from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are eligible for the program, even if they do not possess a BPL certificate. The services under JSY can be accessed at government hospitals as well as select accredited private healthcare institutions.
- For approved private hospitals, the check can be obtained from the social health center coordinator by presenting an income certificate and a caste certificate (for SC/ST individuals).
- Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 600 is provided for deliveries in cities and Rs. 700 for deliveries in villages.
- Additionally, mothers belonging to SC/ST communities receive Rs. 500 for home deliveries, regardless of their financial status.
