Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society (KHRWS)

The Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society (KHRWS) was established in 1973 to improve services for patients in government hospitals across Kerala. It is led by the Health Minister as Chairperson and the Health Secretary as Vice-Chairperson, with other top officials like the Finance and Law Secretaries and the Director of Health also as members. Over the past 50 years, KHRWS has made a strong impact in Kerala’s public health sector.
Regional KHRWS offices operate in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur. There are 75 pay wards in hospitals across the state, including medical colleges, general and district hospitals, women and children’s hospitals, taluk hospitals, community health centres, and Ayurveda hospitals. These pay wards have a total of 1,859 rooms in Janata, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe categories.
KHRWS also runs 14 ACR diagnostic labs in various hospitals. These labs offer accurate test results at affordable rates. Patients under government schemes like Karunya, RSBY, and Medicep get free tests. In emergencies, even those not covered by these schemes receive tests free of charge.
