A comprehensive policy for treating Hemophilia patients has been a long-standing demand of the community. Accordingly, free treatment has been started for Hemophilia patients in the state. The Department of Health has made arrangements to ensure immediate treatment of patients arriving at the emergency departments of selected taluk and district-level hospitals in Kerala. After availing of the first aid, they will be referred to a Hemophilia treatment center or medical college for specialist treatment.

The prescribed dose is allowed to be given to the patient, depending on the factors such as the weight of the patient and the type of bleeding. The patient should ensure that the medication given in this way is used under the strict supervision of a qualified medical practitioner.

Free treatment for Hemophilia patients up to 18 years of age and adults with hemorrhage is based on an internationally accepted treatment protocol. Prophylaxis treatment for children is available only through the District Day Care Center.

In addition, Hemophilia clinics function on certain days of the week through the District Day Care Center /Hemophilia Treatment Center. All patients should attend these clinics once a month for regular check-ups to ensure their health, make lifestyle changes as prescribed by their doctors, and receive regular therapies. Regular exercise and physiotherapy prescribed by a trained medical practitioner are essential to prevent further bleeding and maintain health and wellbeing in addition to medication.
