Seethalayam

Seethalayam project was launched as the first gender-based program by the Department of Homoeopathy, Government of Kerala. Seethalayam en-sures the mental, physical and emotional health of women and their children suffering from domestic violence & various types of abuse. Counselling and legal advice are provided through this project. Services include medical treatment, counselling, legal awareness, and hospital admission for specialised care. Seethalayam collaborates with various departments and organisations, including the women and child, Social justice, family welfare and the State Women's Commission, to provide multidimensional support to needy women. Unlike any other clinical settings, in Seethalayam clinic, both clinical and non-clinical staff are exclusively females and they treat every patient with an empathetic attitude.

Objectives and Deliverables

  • Provide mental, physical and psychological health support to women.
  • Impart awareness about women's rights and laws related to women, thereby ensuring their welfare.
  • Provide an environment for sharing issues with family and to ensure a healthy family life.
  • To give proper treatment to the patients who come to Seethalayam for their physical and emotional issues

Beneficiaries of the project

Women and their families are aided by this project. The main advantage is that it could address the mental issues of women through counselling, treat-ment, and other legal advices. Middle-aged women and teenagers were most ben-efited under the scheme. For the victims of domestic violence, medication is given by homoeopathic physicians. To overcome their psychological issues, the support of a psychologist is provided.

Seethalayam gives support to people who have issues related to stress, OCD, per-sonality dysfunction, emotional issues and disturbances, disorders due to the use of alcohol and drugs, sexual exploitation etc. Seethalayam provides counselling to individuals and families.

As addiction were found to be a major reason for domestic violence, Punarjani units (Deaddiction clinics) started functioning under Seethalayam to provide clinical support to men who are addicted to alcohol. These clinics provide cost-effective treatment for Alcoholism and related illnesses and other substance use disorders. The treatment methods include homoeopathic medicinal therapy, individual and family counselling, and yoga therapy. Other major activities of these clinics include awareness classes on de-addiction for adolescent students in schools and a treatment facility at Karunagappally Govt. Homoeo Hospital in Kollam district.
