In a new chapter in the advancement of the state's health sector, the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram, has successfully performed robotic Paediatric surgery for cancer, the first of its kind in the government sector. The Surgical Oncology Department at RCC carried out the procedure on a three-year-old boy, using robotic technology to remove a neuroblastoma from his left adrenal gland.

RCC was the first government hospital in Kerala to introduce robotic surgery for cancer, later followed by Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC). The installation of advanced robotic surgical systems at RCC and MCC has positioned them among the select government hospitals in India equipped with this cutting-edge technology, marking a major milestone in the state's public healthcare sector.
