Kozhikode Government Medical College's Institute of Maternal and Child Health (IMCH) has recently secured the prestigious National MusQan certification, marking a significant milestone as the first hospital in the state to achieve this recognition for outstanding baby-friendly services. The IMCH garnered an impressive score of 96 per cent in the certification process. 

The MusQan project, underpinning this achievement, is dedicated to enhancing child-friendly services in public health facilities, primarily focusing on reducing morbidity and mortality rates among newborns and children. Encompassing crucial facets of child growth and development—physical, mental, and social—the MusQan project strives to elevate the standards of Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs), Newborn Stabilization Units (NBSUs), postnatal wards, and pediatric Outpatient Departments (OPDs).

Kerala, as a trailblazer in healthcare initiatives, stands out as the first state in the nation to implement the Mother-Child Friendly Hospital Initiative Certificate. To date, 45 government and private hospitals renowned for their exceptional facilities have been honoured with the Mother and Child-Friendly Hospital Initiative certificate. Furthermore, 10 government hospitals have achieved national recognition for meeting delivery hospital quality standards. Complementing these achievements is the statewide implementation of the Mathru Yaanam scheme, facilitating cost-free transportation for mothers and babies to their homes post-delivery. The government's overarching goal is to ensure the delivery of high-quality child healthcare services by instituting child-friendly policies across all medical colleges, district hospitals, and taluk level hospitals in Kerala.
