Kozhikode Govt Medical College to Open State-of-the-Art Super Specialty Block
Kozhikode Government Medical College is all set to open a new block dedicated to super speciality treatment including surgical super speciality. The advanced facility, which costs ₹195.93 crore, is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and facilities. It includes Accident and Emergency Care, six super speciality departments, 500 beds, 19 operating theatres, 10 intensive care units, IPD, faculty area, CT, MRI, digital X-ray, CCTV system, data system, PA system, and lifts.
Departments operating in the new super speciality block include Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Renal Transplant Surgery, Neurosurgery and Surgical Gastroenterology. The facility features 190 ICU beds, with 20 beds dedicated to multi-organ transplantation for brain-dead patients, another 20 beds for kidney transplantation, and 20 beds for the specialized treatment of head injuries.The new super speciality block was built under the PMSSY scheme.
Established in 1957, Kozhikode Medical College is spread over 270 acres. The hospital currently has 1183 beds and is complemented by a range of specialized centres including a Maternal and Child Care Center (610 beds), Savitri Sabu Memorial Cancer Institute (101 beds), Chest Diseases Hospital (100 beds), Super Specialty Complex, Zonal Lymph Fitting Centre, Dental College, Nursing College, Pharmacy College, and Tri-level Cancer Centre. Kozhikode Medical College also offers modern speciality services such as kidney transplant, a well-equipped cath lab, tele-cobalt therapy, linear accelerator, and PET scan.
