Kerala's largest dialysis unit set up at Ernakulam general hospital

The largest dialysis centre in Kerala has commenced operations at Ernakulam General Hospital, equipped with advanced facilities. The centre features 54 dialysis machines, along with amenities such as 54 couches, multi-para monitors, 6 nursing stations, 3 help desks, 12 scrub areas, 300 dialyzers, and a storeroom. Each unit includes a bed, bedside locker, cardiac table, monitor, and a dialysis machine. Initially, 162 individuals can undergo hemodialysis in three shifts per day.
A comprehensive nephrology package has been introduced at General Hospital, offering services such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplantation for individuals suffering from kidney diseases. Additionally, the facility supports peritoneal dialysis, allowing patients to perform the procedure at home. Presently, over 650 patients are undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
In the fiscal year 2017-18, the construction of the new block was completed with an expenditure of Rs 2 crore from the MP's local area development fund, and Rs 8 crore from the hospital development committee funds and CSR funds. The new dialysis block will significantly benefit kidney patients, especially as lifestyle diseases are on the rise in the state.
