The Department of Social Justice has released a book titled Comprehensive Book on Autism Management to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Kerala is the first state in the country to publish a book dedicated to autism awareness. This book was released as part of the State Programme for Education & Empowerment in Disabilities (SPEED), which includes training and awareness programs related to disabilities, in connection with the government's fourth 100-day programme.

The book is designed to raise awareness about the condition among caregivers, family members, doctors, professionals, and others, while also aiding in the early identification of autism. It covers what autism is, its symptoms, causes, and available treatment options. Additionally, the book provides comprehensive information for parents, teachers, health workers, and those interested in learning more about autism, helping them identify symptoms in children at an early stage. The Comprehensive Book on Autism Management was developed with the support of the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) and the Child Development Centre (CDC). It addresses the various activities required to manage Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the challenges involved, and practical interventions.

The first sections of the book cover general information, including the history, epidemiology, diagnosis, and interventions for ASD. Subsequent sections discuss how factors such as pregnancy, childbirth, the postnatal environment, and genetics are associated with autism. The book also explores aspects of autism management, including neuropsychiatric issues, communication challenges, behavioral problems, motor coordination, and biomedical management. It further includes the experiences of parents of children with ASD. Additionally, the book provides information on training programs for parents, ensuring their psychological well-being, and addresses children's education, social interactions, behaviour management, and daily living skills training for children with autism.
