Digitalization of Hospital Services, From OP Tickets to Online Payments

The Health Department has introduced digital systems in government hospitals to enhance transparency and efficiency in public health services through modern technology. Services such as online OP ticket booking, digital payment, the m-eHealth app, and the ‘Scan n Book’ system have been launched to make healthcare more accessible and convenient for the public.

In the first phase, digital payment systems are being introduced in 313 hospitals across the state. Patients can now pay for various services using credit cards, debit cards, and UPI platforms like Google Pay and PhonePe. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Information Kerala Mission under the Department of Local Self-Government.

Online OP Ticket

All modern medicine hospitals under the state Health Department now offer the option to book OP tickets online in advance to consult doctors. In the first phase, this service is available in 687 hospitals under the e-health scheme and around 80 other hospitals, from taluk hospitals to medical colleges, that are yet to implement e-health. People can use this facility through computers, smartphones, or by visiting Akshaya Kendras.

m-eHealth Mobile App

The m-eHealth app helps individuals access their and their family’s health details like treatment history, prescriptions, and lab reports using their UHID or mobile number. The app also lets users book OP tickets in advance. It is available for Android phones and can be downloaded from the Play Store.

Scan N Book

The Scan N Book system helps patients get an OP ticket without standing in line at the hospital. By scanning the QR code displayed at the hospital using a smartphone, they can book a token online. This makes it easier to see the doctor without waiting at the reception counter.

The expansion of digital systems will pave the way for a new chapter in Kerala's healthcare mission. The steps taken by the state to deliver health services in a more modern and comprehensive manner, and to ensure the widespread use of advanced technology across the health sector, will serve as a model at the national level.
